Cruise Control (NSCC)
NSCC on the KIA EV6 is Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control. It’s built-in as part of the Smart Cruise Control feature.
This system uses information from the navigation software to adjust your cruising speed.
- NSCC only uses information from the navigation system. It doesn’t read speed limit signs or recognize temporary limits such as those around roadworks. As such, your EV6 might misinterpret the road speed limit. Always maintain awareness and control of your car’s speed.
Of course, the Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control has many other limitations too. See the end of this article.
You can only use the KIA EV6 NSCC if:
- You’re traveling on a large, multi-lane, and open highway.
- You’ve turned Smart Cruise Control on.
Other limitations still apply.
For example, incorrect speed limit navigation data might receive a software update from KIA. This would reflect the new or temporary road laws.
NSCC also includes Highway Curve Zone Auto Slowdown. This reduces your speed as you approach tight bends on the highway. It then accelerates again when you drive past it. The rate this happens at depends on the navigation system’s understanding of the road layout.

Setting KIA EV6 Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control max speed
In your KIA EV6 menus, you should look for the Highway Auto Speed Change feature. This is just another name for the Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control.
Activate the KIA EV6 NSCC by following these instructions.
- Go to Settings.
- Select Vehicle.
- Choose Driver Assistance.
- Open Driving Convenience.
- In the menu that opens, select the check box next to Highway Auto Speed Change.
Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control is now active.
How do you know that the KIA EV6 NSCC is working?
When the Navigation-based Cruise Control is turned on but isn’t yet active, it’ll switch into standby mode. You’ll see:
- A white NAV symbol appears by the speed setting.
When the NSCC is actively monitoring and adjusting your EV6’s speed:
- The white NAV symbol turns green.
The system might speed you up or slow you down to match the speed limits (as the navigation understands it).
If you see this message pop up while the NSCC system is active:
- Drive carefully
Then your car can’t be slowed down.
Turning off Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control on the KIA EV6
In certain circumstances, the NSCC has no need to be on. For instance, the system might not recognize new road layouts or roadworks around your home.
If you want to turn off the KIA EV6’s NSCC, go to the same menu as above.
- Open Settings.
- Choose Vehicle.
- Select Driver Assistance.
- Go to Driver Convenience.
- Deselect the box next to Highway Auto Speed Change.
When NSCC is active, you can put it into standby mode by tapping the brake pedal. Turning off a designated highway will also force the system into standby.
KIA EV6 NSCC system limitations
The NSCC doesn’t work in all situations. Below, you’ll find a non-exhaustive list of just a few circumstances in which the system might not work.
- Cruise control issue
- Smart Cruise Control problem (such as a sensor being obscured)
- Navigation system malfunction
- Bad weather, such as heavy rain, snow, fog, etc.
- Driving through tunnels where there might not be a GPS signal
- Going through construction or temporary/variable speed limits
- When you detour from the set route – it takes a moment for the map to reset. This is particularly dangerous in sudden curves like exit ramps.
- Using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto can interfere with the system.
- Entering a rest area or service station.
- And more.
NSCC is also limited to 90 mph (well above the US’s highest speed limit). It doesn’t work if you’re traveling any faster than that. It also won’t work at intersections or junctions.
Always keep your eye on the road. Remember that Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control is meant to help your driving, not replace it. Stay aware and alert at all times, and never rely on the car to control your speed for you.
